The Bending Dept has been transferred to Tyler Hardwoods.

The timber used, usually Ash or Beech is air dried for a month, and then cut and planed to size. In the Bending Shop, the wood is first softened by being steamed it in a retort. The stakes are then placed on an aluminium 'strap' and wedged in place.

The machine then bends the strap around the appropriately shaped bending 'block'. A metal tie joins the ends of the strap, holding the shape while the bends are left to dry in a kiln.
